Wednesday Comes to Wicklow Again: “Full of Wish” at Powerscourt Estate

On October 29th, Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow hosted a special Halloween event called “Wednesday: Full of Wish.”

The celebration took inspiration from Netflix’s Wednesday series and was organised to support Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Visitors were invited to come dressed in costume, and for every costumed group, Powerscourt donated the full admission fee to the charity. It was a simple but meaningful idea — combining fun, community spirit, and a good cause.

A mix of film, fun and local culture

Events like Full of Wish show how Wicklow keeps finding new ways to connect its local culture, film heritage, and natural beauty. Powerscourt has always been one of the top things to do in Wicklow, attracting visitors for its gardens, waterfall, and the impressive views of the Great Sugar Loaf mountain.

More recently, Powerscourt has also become one of the most recognisable filming locations in Ireland. Its gardens and Ireland’s tallest waterfall were used in Wednesday Season 2, following in the footsteps of many other productions filmed in Wicklow, such as Vikings, Braveheart, The Tudors and PS I Love You.

Wicklow – Ireland’s “Hollywood of the East”

It’s no surprise that filmmakers keep coming back to Wicklow. The area offers dramatic landscapes, historic estates, ancient monastic sites, and easy access from Dublin — all within an hour’s drive. That’s why Wicklow is often called Ireland’s “Hollywood of the East.”

Whether you’re a film fan, a nature lover, or just looking for new ideas for day trips from Dublin, visiting filming locations like Powerscourt, Lough Tay (known as the Guinness Lake), and Glendalough makes for a great experience. These places combine the beauty of the Irish countryside with a sense of magic and story that you can feel as soon as you arrive.
